Wolastoq (Saint John River) Management Plan

The MNCC is leading an initiative to conduct a comprehensive management plan process for the Wolastoq (Saint John River – SJR) watershed. This process will be in several stages. In phase I we will be conducting a series of public meetings in order to gather input or feedback from our member communities as well as the general public.

This project is the first step in increasing our involvement in managing the river and its resources. The project already has interest from a number of conservation groups who agree with the necessity of a management plan for our river.

Currently in New Brunswick, only two other rivers have such management plans, the Miramichi and Restigouche Rivers. The proposed watershed plan is entering a new phase as a steering committee; members will be selected soon. Partnerships between American and Canadian organizations have resulted in a clear desire to form an international committee for the benefit of the watershed and the many species that depend on it.
